Hoi An is a wonderful combination of history, culture, and outdoor shopping mall rolled into a picturesque small old town. An old port city, the town still exhibits plenty of history and culture, although numerous people will tell you that tourism is taking over -- as evidenced by the crowds exhibiting a lively babble of languages from all over the world -- with locals unfortunately being pushed farther and farther out. (I say this guiltily, as a tourist who loved Hoi An, who hopes to return, and who highly recommends it to others.)
The shopping here was thoroughly enjoyable, whether of the Window or Spending variety; the wide variety of goods focused heavily on custom tailors and Vietnamese souvenirs, with the latter ranging from souvenir kitsch to seemingly quality art and textiles. And as with other areas of Vietnam I have been able to visit, the town has a wonderful variety of amazing food across restaurants and food stands throughout the town. Numerous tours found online, at hotels, and through local tourism offices can take you around the town and region, including to the nearby beaches, Danang, and farther afield historic and cultural sights.
One note: The river nearby seems to bring a solid breeze even on hot days; however, even a block away from the river, the buildings blocking the breeze results in a heat that can weigh you down.Thu gọn
